Mouth complications related to cancer treatment
 

Each year about 400,000 people (including many in the Columbia, Jefferson City and Lake of the Ozarks areas) with cancer develop treatment-related complications in the mouth ranging from lesions to chronic dry mouth to bone disintegration.  If serious, these complications can be life threatening.  While many are unavoidable, some can be prevented or minimized by Dr. Reese.

Dr. Reese recommends that whenever possible, a pre-therapy dental evaluation with a full set of mouth x-rays be performed. Any decay, gum disease and abscesses should be treated, if time permits, prior to chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

Even patients who have no pain or dental disorders need a thorough cleaning.  Our goal at Show Me Smiles is to have the patient's mouth in optimal health prior to beginning anti-cancer therapy.

Show Me Smiles  Jay B. Reese, DDS, PC is a practice of General Dentistry.  This provider is not a specialist in Orthodontics (braces), Endodontics (root canals), Periodontics (gum therapy or surgery), Oral Surgery (extractions), or Prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, full or partial dentures).  Bleaching, cosmetic dentistry, implantology, implant dentistry, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) therapy are non-specialty interest areas that require no specific educational training to advertise these services.  Conscious sedation is taught as a part of post-graduate residency programs approved by the American Dental Association.  Dr. Reese has not completed an American Dental Association approved residency program in which conscious sedation is taught.
